Information Made Beautiful

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

Hello there, curious readers. That’s why you come here, isn’t it? Hungry for knowledge, wanting to know what’s new?

But is it only cold hard facts you’re after? No, you say? Great.  This week we’ve got a really cool and amazing new feature for you: Infographics! Turning information from a dry fact into a fun ride. Here’s an example:

Whenever you click on a product the quick view lets you know how many fellow shoppers follow the product’s brand. This is cool. But click on “group insights” and suddenly the information takes on a new and lovely form.

Instead of just a number, you’ll see the age groups the various shoppers are part of, the different regions they come from, their gender – and all of that in the form of easy to get and fun to look at infographics.

Shoppers Little Helpers

This isn’t the only feature helping you get what you want in a friendly and easy on the eyes manner.  If you scroll down the homepage – and why wouldn’t you, it looks great – you’ll notice a new button on the bottom left titled “scroll to top”. Click it and it will bring you back to the top of the page, sparing your weary finger muscles and your mouse wheel some effort.

Another button designed to make your life easier is “new stories available”, which appears at the top of the newsfeed when, well, new stories are available. It’s our polite and helpful way to let you know there’s some new stuff worth checking out. Now click the button and check out the new stuff.

Seek and You Shall Find

Last but certainly not least: Search – arguably one of the most powerful tools in a shopper’s arsenal – just got way better. Type whatever you’re looking for into the search window, hit enter, and see the search results neatly divided into products, catalogs, people and media. Finding exactly what you want is now easier than ever.

Discover Your Inner Hero

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at Sears Social

It’s 2012. The festivities are over, time to get back on track, and start fulfilling those New Year’s resolutions.

Our goals haven’t changed and we’re moving ahead at full steam. This week we’re adding another feature to our lovely brands, giving admins the ability to control banners – we call them Hero banners – on their brand page.

The brand owner will be able to upload up to 5 different images, giving him more control of the content and tone of his brand page, making it easier to stand out of the crowd. We want to let the brand admin have a real influence on the page, and mold it according to the brand’s values and image. The Hero banners are another important step in that direction.

Easy on the Eyes

Meanwhile we’re working on improving the site’s looks, and in a big way. There’s so much new stuff we don’t even know where to start. But here goes.

Discover

There’s a new product discovery page in town. Gone are the small formal pictures – feast your eyes on cool large images that just make you want to go click and explore. Check out the tabs on the top of the page – no more searching through menus, just click the right tab and see those products that really interest you. You can easily reach it by clicking that green link on the top right of the homepage. Enjoy.

We also changed the notification icon and added snazzy new icons to the left navigation. Each menu item now has a small stylish icon matching its function. Nice.

The next month is going to be hectic for us: we have big exciting plans for the site that will change and enhance the user experience dramatically. Stay tuned

By Noam Resehf, Community Manager at Sears Social

As we told you last week, brands are now up for grabs – users can try and claim brand ownership and control the brand page’s content. We started last week by letting users send in their brand ownership request. This week we’ve started adding owner capabilities.

Shop Your Way Rewards gets MGMT

If you’ll check out our brand pages you’ll start seeing changes. Owners will be able to publish stories as brands – stories that will appear in your newsfeed. So start following the brands you like, and see what surprising cool content pops up in your feed.

Share the joy

Share, and Do It Fast

‘Tis the season and everyone’s in a sugar coated mood. Accordingly, we made it even easier to share content with your Sears Social friends and spread the joy. First we added the ability to recommend from the quickview, now you can also share – who knows what we’ll think of next.

Creativity Dojo Results – Mobile Apps

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

by Pasha Bitz, Product Manager

This is the second post about things we built during the Sears Israel Creativity Dojo. Read the first post about Web Apps here.

Protect the Environment App

Gilad and Anya developed an app to help Environment Protection Volunteers (נאמן נקיון) document environmental pollution offenses.

The Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection runs a program to enforce anti-pollution laws where volunteers that go through special training can file reports when they see someone polluting the environment. The polluters are then fined. The apps helps the volunteer record the offense in real-time to help with later filling out the required report:

Universal text app

Tali and Guy developed an app that helps reach someone using many methods of communication at once. You can send an SMS, a Google Talk message and an email all at once. Now you can always find the person you need:
