ShopYourWay Is Seeing Stars

Monday, January 14th, 2013

By Sareena Denis, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

The stars have arrived! Fashion icon Nicki Minaj just landed at ShopYourWay. The pink princess of hip hop will soon be launching her own clothing and accessories line to be featured exclusively at Kmart stores and here on ShopYourWay.

“I am so excited to work with this iconic, mass retailer and to bring affordable fashion to my beautiful Barbz all across the U.S.”

Another star sighting is Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine. Developing his own apparel, Levine’s collection will reflect his creativity, personality, and distinctive rocker street style.

“Partnering with ShopYourWay to develop this line was an exciting opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to diving into the process of designing an apparel and accessory collection,” said Adam.

The Fun Doesn’t Stop There

These two crooners will be giving ShopYourWay members an exclusive peek into their daily globe-trotting lives. When you visit Adam and Nicki’s ShopYourWay pages, you’ll get all the latest news, updates, and buzz surrounding these stars.

What’s even cooler is that you’ll have direct access to their twitter feed, apparel line news, sweepstakes and giveaways, photos, videos, interviews, and ShopYourWay stories. Make sure to check them out today and get the latest updates on all things Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine!

If You Build it, They Will Come

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

We keep telling you how great brand pages are, and how you should really follow pages of stores near you, or of your favorite celebrity. But why should you just follow? Why not lead?

As of now, you can create your own page. It’s simple: click on “pages” in the left navigation pane and decide which type of page you’d like to manage. A fan page dedicated to your favorite band, a social cause you want to promote, or maybe a brand you like.

The process is automatic and fast. Choose the page type, fill a few details and you’re done. Now you just need to take good care of that page and make it as interesting and fun as you can.

Help is on the Way

A cool new feature in our search engine: if you search for an answer to a support related question – the whereabouts of your SHOP YOUR WAY REWARDS number for example – you’ll get an automatic help message, directing you to the relevant help page. Helpful, we know.

We’ve got some more great stuff: check out your catalogs, and you’ll see a new feature on the top right – the new comments section. This is the place to discuss the catalog, make suggestions and see what other people think about it. Go ahead and try it.

Last but not least: We’ve got a great tool for you shoppers. when you check out a product you’ll be able to see related products that you may find interesting as well. For example, if you’re going to buy an iPod, you’ll see cases for the Apple music player, earphones etc. This is a great way to save time and effort and get all the stuff you need in one place.

Enjoy the site and stay tuned!

Keeping it Simple

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Notice anything new on the site? Take a look at your newsfeed – not quite the same right? Right. We added a little something we like to call a “sticky” right rail. Why? Because it sticks to the top right of the newsfeed and doesn’t let go! It’s like Spiderman up there.

Right now you can find some suggested activities just for you on the right rail. That’s right: our incredibly smart system personalizes these recommendations according to your tastes and preferences on the site.

So check it out – and stay tuned for some more cool features in that sticky real estate.

That’s not the only thing we’ve been working on, of course. There’s a small but crucial improvement we implemented in our search engine: searching for pages.

When you search for something, you’ll notice a tab called – surprise – pages. Clicking on it will show you all pages relevant to your search query. Simple and easy to use.

It’s Multiplying!

Speaking of pages, if you’re managing one, you’ll be happy to know that it’s now easier to share the load. Page admins can now add more admins from the settings page, letting anyone in their friends list edit the page, and do whatever it is admins do. Go on, don’t be shy. Invite some friends over to manage your page.

And finally, let’s talk about design and good looks. First of all we made a small but important adjustment to infographics – that cool tool that lets us show you interesting info through nifty visuals. Take a look and you’ll see we added some additional helpful info to the feature.

And finally – we added some pre-designed images to our category pages. And they do look awesome. Check it out – and stay tuned!

It’s Your Choice to Make

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

The real secret in this age of way-too-much-information is filtering and sorting. That’s what you need to master: how to turn that huge tidal wave of data into neatly divided small streams of info.

That’s what we’re about this week. Sorting and filtering, helping you see exactly what you want to see.

Here we go: first thing’s first – catalogs. Or to be more precise, catalogs in pages. One of the great things about ShopYourWay is the ability to organize items relevant to a store or brand page in catalogs. The page manager can do it – and so can any follower of the page.

Say you go to Kmart’s brand page, and take a look at the catalogs. Some of them were created by the page manager, others by users. Not the same thing, right? Click on the arrow on the right and choose what you’d like to see – community catalogs, or those created by the brand manager. Nifty, isn’t it?

Same thing with questions. What would you like to see – questions created by fellow shoppers, or by the page manager? Now you can easily choose.

Look at the Pretty Pictures

Remember infographics? The lovely format which lets you learn lots of new stuff about the brand or item by using visual means? Well now it’s on our product pages as well. Check out the product you want and see how many people of a certain age group or gender are interested in it as well.

And last but not least – one of the key factors to all the stuff we listed above is following. Following a cool fellow shopper, a brand you like or a catalog you find interesting. The more stuff you follow, the more interesting your feed will become.

So – in order to make following easier we added it to the hover options. See something you like? Hover your mouse cursor over it, and check out the elegant little menu of actions that magically appears. If you can follow the item, a follow option will be there. One click and you’re done.

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for some surprises next week!

Oh My, It Keeps Getting Awesomer

Monday, June 4th, 2012

By Avishay Lavie, Software Engineer at Sears Social

Oh hi there! It’s time for our weekly news update. Well, as you might expect, we’ve been hard at work improving the new experience, which is the formal corporate name for what we internally refer to as “Project Mega-Awesome”. This week brings a host of newly designed pages and components. Let’s take a quick tour around the exciting new stuff, shall we?

Tag, Store and Brand Pages Get Beefed Up

Brands, stores and tags got some serious treatment this week. For example, clicking the Questions tab will show you the questions and polls related to the topic at hand. You could help other users interested in the same things, or have some fun answering some polls about the stuff you care about, all without sacrificing the sparkly, fuzzy feeling of amazingness delivered by the new experience.

Hello!

Similarly, the newly-added Catalogs tab helps you find related catalogs, which in themselves are a great opportunity to get acquainted with some new users or skip that social nonsense entirely and dive directly into the hot new products. Plus, there’s that sudden surge of joy you feel when you see your own catalog featured on a tag page.

Lastly, if you’re a store, brand or tag administrator, you can now enjoy the new experience on the Settings tab. Defining newsfeed rules has never been so much fun.

Show a Newsfeed Story Where Credit is Due

We’re not resting on the newsfeed front either. Now you can get the credit you deserve when adding new products to ShopYourWay:

Are You Following This?

The Catalog also got a new tab. Click the Followers tab to see who’s following the catalog, with beautiful large images spread across the entire window. And they could have their own set of cool catalogs, each with its own followers… it’s a slippery slope, really. Except, well, this particular slope is actually a beautifully-designed, super-fun water slide. Yes.

The Fast and the Fabulous

So yeah, the new site has some real pretty pages. But why waste time waiting for pages to reload if you just want a quick impression of something? And while we’re at it, is there an excuse for that quick impression not to be as amazing as the rest of the site?

No. No there isn’t. That’s exactly what we told ourselves when we set out to design and build the new amazing quickviews.

The Catalog Quickview, for example, is a delicate balance of functionality and OMG PRETTY.

The image and video quickviews have less functionality to deal with, so they can focus on their sweet new looks.

Yes, our design team certainly knows what it’s doing out there in the small cubicle where we keep them. But don’t take my words and screenshots for it – go check everything out for yourself. We hope you’ll have as much fun using all these new features as we had building them. See you next time!

Full Steam Ahead

So – the cat is out of the bag, as we’ve told you last week. The site’s new design is now available for all users to experience, and as we promised, we’re going to keep rolling out more improvements and additions.

This week we’ve turned our attention to tag pages – brands, stores etc. Just take a look: Gone is the old single column newsfeed design. The new pages look sleek and modern, offering a much larger variety of items and stories across the page.

The old left navigation is gone as well, replaced by tabs – more convenient and takes up less space. Store pages get a nice display of store opening hours and a map, in case you need some directions.

Meanwhile catalogs get a boost as well, with a new catalog display, showing off some of the items in the catalog on the cover. Check out your catalogs display – it’s cool.

And yes – this is still far from over. We’re going to keep adding new amazing stuff on a weekly basis. We remind you again – all you have to do is click on that little button in the bottom left of the homepage that says “try the new experience”. A few of you guys will discover they were lucky and get the new design as their default version.

The new ShopYourWay is moving, full steam ahead. Get on board…

More Pages for You!

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

It’s page frenzy over here: we keep rolling out new page types and connecting them all together.

What’s up this week? Well, we’ve got new special pages for places – that hotel you just stayed in for example, or your favorite Kmart store.

Park Hotel

We’ve also got topic pages, created automatically from stories in our site. Say we just published a story about redecorating houses. Want to learn more or discuss with fellow shoppers? Go to the newly created redecorating topic page. Great, isn’t it?

Not only that, but we’ll help you discover specific pages that we know you’ll like. You’ll get recommendations to follow pages according to your tastes and interests in the suggested activity box on the right rail. You’ll also see related pages in your favorite brand or clique page. It’s one smooth seamless experience

Games, Fun and Mobile

We didn’t mention sweepstakes for a while, but rest assured they’re still here and going strong. Check out the new ones we just uploaded – it’s fun!

Also, on mobile: you can now post stuff on your friends’ wall. You can also delete a status message you published with an elegant swipe of your finger. Almost makes you want to delete stuff for the heck of it. Enjoy!

The Rise of the Brand Pages

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

By Noam Reshef, Community Manager at ShopYourWay

Continuing last week’s momentum, we rolled out some more features enhancing the abilities of page admins across the site. We’re giving away super-powers here, people.

Handymen clique

This week is about inter-relations, and how things work together. Here we go: brand owners will now be able to post on other pages under the brand identity. Example: if you’re managing the Craftsman brand, and see a discussion on the Handymen clique page you can post a relevant status as the brand. Easy and practical.

Users get a say too: they can now tag catalogs, which will in turn appear under a special tab in the brand page. Say you created a catalog of your favorite EA video games and tagged it with the EA brand. Lo and behold: it will appear in the brand page, under the community catalogs tab.

That’s not all. You’ll start seeing recommendations for pages based on your actions on the site in the right rail. You’ll also start seeing links to related pages on your favorite brand page – all a part of our effort to make your life easier and more interesting.

Scan This

New on the mobile front: you can now use our app to scan QR codes – you know, those black and white rectangles that you scan with your smartphone to get all kind of nifty offers, videos etc directly to your phone. Start looking for those in Sears and Kmart stores.

Download our app!
